On the Grow!

You can't miss it.  If you've driven anywhere in or near Wilmington NC lately you've seen lots of new construction taking place.  New apartment complexes, new home communities and commercial buildings are springing up, not to mention the downtown convention center, new arts center and other entertainment venues.  All that pent up growth that stalled during the economic downturn is busting out.  According to city development leaders, the last time Wilmington saw this much growth and development, Woodrow Wilson was President and prohibition was in full swing.
Over the next 20 years, 60,000 new residents will move to Wilmington.  And next door, Brunswick County is now the fastest growing county in the state AND in the region, and is number 52 nationally.  Here are just a few examples of places where Wilmingtonians may be living and playing in the near future.

Construction of Riverplace, a residential and retail development, will start in 2017 between Front and Water St.  This is one of three new residential developments going in downtown.

The Point at Barclay on 17th St, with a 14 screen theater,   restaurants, shopping and apartments, is slated to open by Thanksgiving.  Nearby is a new housing development, The Forks.

Riverlights is a master planned community being constructed on one of the last remaining large tracts of undeveloped, buildable land in Wilmington -- 1,400 acres along River Road.  It will eventually include 2,500 homes and town homes, a marina with 112 boat slips on the Cape Fear River, a lake, restaurants, and a dog beach.
